In an effort to provide full transparency on a daily basis, QA Mentor has developed a Daily Status Report to give our clients a complete view of each day’s activities, accomplishments, or roadblocks. This level of reporting allows project managers to gain immediate insight into the project progress and evaluate if additional resources need to be used, know if the deadline will be met, and quickly attack any problems as soon as they happen.
Project name, sponsors, phase, and managers are identified at the top along with the date the report is being provided for. The report has multiple tabs to give both a high level, executive summary and detailed information into all areas of the project such as test case execution, defect analysis, test design (if applicable), and downtime. Color-coded themes help to easily identify areas that are on target (green) or falling behind (red). The goal of this report is for QA Mentor to be as open as we can regarding project status, so clients can properly and adequately plan for impending releases and give additional stakeholders up to date information on projects that could affect the business.
A high level, color-coded snapshot of the day’s key accomplishments and progress along with an overall targeted completion % vs. the actual completion %
Current and past risks such as development delays, additional scope, or priority changes.
All current issues that are negatively impacting test creation or execution cycles
Quick summary of any downtime experienced and the reasons. Downtime also has its own detailed tab with all past downtime issues explained in an informative table that includes hours down, reason, resources affected, person hours lost, and days lost for each downtime instance.
Test Case Execution Summary
Target % and number of test cases completed is shown with the actual % and number of test cases executed per day.
Functional Coverage Breakdown
For each module/functional area, this summary displays start dates, target completion date, statistical test case execution, and the daily progress of test cases passed, failed, retested, or blocked. This also offers a complete picture of actual vs. targeted execution rates. The day’s specific execution details are on their own tab offering specifics into the day’s work.
Graphical representation of the number of defects reported for day and number of defects still outstanding. A Defect Analysis tab gives additional details for all defects such as status, root cause, detection date, defect age, target dates, and closed date.
Test Design Summary
If test execution is in parallel with test design, this section provides a picture of the current test design preparation status with a number of manual and automated test cases created for the day. A separate Test Design Tracker tab provides a table of details including scenario status, completion dates, review dates, sign off dates, reference documents, and any comments.
