Testing Phase

This testing phase is the big one, and unfortunately far too often, it’s the only testing phase utilized by pressured IT teams. All of the testing prior to this phase has been to help get the best possible code base into system testing. This phase generally takes the longest, is the best planned, and requires the most resources. System testing utilizes use cases, requirements, specifications, business rules, and other high level documentation and descriptions to verify the behavior of the entire system.

Some of the types of testing done during this phase are requirements testing, functional testing, security testing, performance testing, end-to-end testing, negative testing, positive testing, boundary tests, globalization testing, database testing, and compatibility testing. Since some of the testing done in this phase is black box testing, test cases can be written as soon as requirements are finished, giving testers a jump start on the testing process.

Testers use the functional specifications and design documents to create a comprehensive test plan to validate each functional aspect, each requirement, internal security, and system performance. For best results, system testing should be performed in an environment as close as possible to the projected production environment, since the entire flow of the application from the starting point to the end point is validated. Real-world scenarios are used for a more complete test of all integrated components.

Since this phase is the most involved and time consuming, many companies require help to meet their deadlines. QA Mentor has many services to assist your busy team and make sure your product is of the highest quality and delivered on time.
